Sellers: Laptop sales in Russia rises 21% to 40.5 bln rbl in H1

MOSCOW, Aug 7 (PRIME) – Russian laptop sales jumped 21% on the year to 40.5 billion rubles in January–June and 7% to 1.2 million with a third sold online, large electronics retailing group M.Video-Eldorado, a part of Safmar Group of businessman Mikhail Gutseriyev, said on Tuesday in a statement.

“The years of 2012–2013 were the peak for the market of personal computers. After the ruble devaluation in 2014, demand for laptops fell due to a rise of the average price. Starting from the second half of 2016, the market has started recovering,” Alexei Pomozov, head of the Home Office department at the group, said.

“In view of the average laptop lifespan of four–five years, the year of 2018 was a year of a massive renovation of the personal computer fleet both in business-to-business and business-to-customer segments, which helped the market enter an active growth stage.”

The average price went up 10% to 34,000 rubles because of a higher popularity of more expensive laptops and demand for game equipment.

Online sales increased 45% to 13.2 billion rubles and 23% to 340,000 laptops.

The four most popular brands were Lenovo, Asus, HP, and Acer, accounting for 79% of the market in units. Demand for Apple laptops skyrocketed 90% in January–June in units.
